The Philippines vies for 7 wards as Asia’s best for the 2024 world travel awards
Manila, Philippines—The Philippines remains a top tourist destination in Asia, vying for seven prestigious titles at the 2024 World Travel Awards (WTA).
This year, the Philippines has been shortlisted for several categories including Asia’s Leading Beach Destination, Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, and Asia’s Leading Island Destination. Additionally, the historic Walled City of Intramuros is in the running once more for Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction. Boracay and Cebu are also contenders for Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination and Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination, respectively.
The country’s Department of Tourism (DOT) is also nominated again for Asia’s Leading Tourist Board.
“These nominations underscore the dedicated efforts of the Department of Tourism since the inception of the Marcos Administration. We express gratitude to WTA for providing The Philippines a platform to continuously showcase our diverse tourism offerings not only within Asia but on the global stage, but most importantly, we express our thanks to our tourism stakeholders who continue to safeguard the myriad of tourism gems in the Philippines for all the world to love and enjoy,” stated Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.
“While winning these accolades adds prestige to our endeavors, they also translate into livelihood opportunities for millions of Filipinos whose well-being depends on tourism. We aim to maintain and surpass the strides we’ve made since taking office, ensuring sustained growth in the country’s tourism sector,” she emphasized.
Secretary Frasco highlighted that 2023 was an exceptional year for the Philippines, having secured the title of World’s Leading Dive Destination for the fifth consecutive year since 2019. Additionally, Manila was named the World’s Leading City Destination last year.
The Philippines also received the Global Tourism Resilience award last year, recognizing “global leadership, pioneering vision, and innovation to overcome critical challenges and adversity,” along with four other nations who were the first recipients of this honor from the WTA. The award aims to set standards for best practices in tourism resilience.
The Philippines was honored as the Destination of the Year by the online travel platform TripZilla and was named Asia’s Best Cruise Destination by the WTA.
