Just off the coast of the famed Malapascua Island in Northern Cebu lies Dakit-Dakit Island, a small and rocky islet that packs a surprising punch for marine enthusiasts. While unassuming at first glance, this tiny limestone formation is one of the most accessible dive and snorkeling spots in the area, especially for those looking to experience marine life without venturing too far into deep waters. Renowned for its rich underwater biodiversity and strong currents that bring in nutrient-rich waters, Dakit-Dakit is a favorite for check-out dives, training sessions, and even macro photography.

        Location and Accessibility

Dakit-Dakit Island is located just a few hundred meters southeast of Bounty Beach on Malapascua Island, part of the municipality of Daanbantayan, Cebu Province. Its coordinates are 11.323592 N, 124.108740 E, making it easily reachable from most dive resorts and centers.

        How to get there:

        • From Cebu City, travel to Maya Port at the northern tip of Cebu Island via a 4–5 hour bus ride from the North Bus Terminal.
        • Take a 30-minute boat ride to Malapascua Island.
        • From Malapascua, Dakit-Dakit is just a 5–10 minute boat ride from the main beach.

No trekking or long travel times required — just gear up and go.

        Natural Features

Dakit-Dakit is a rocky islet surrounded by a shallow reef plateau, sloping gently into deeper channels. Its name, meaning “small-small” in Cebuano, reflects its size — but not the richness of its marine life.

        Expect to see:

        • Schools of fusiliers, batfish, and barracudas
        • Scorpionfish, moray eels, and nudibranchs among the corals
        • Occasionally blacktip reef sharks and rays
        • Abundant soft and hard corals, sea fans, and sponges

The strong outer currents help circulate plankton and attract a wide variety of fish species.

        Activities and Experiences

        • Scuba Diving: Ideal for check dives with good visibility and depths of 5–20 meters.
        • Snorkeling: Best on calm days along the Malapascua-facing side.
        • Freediving Practice: Great for beginners thanks to sloping walls and sheltered spots.
        • Underwater Photography: Excellent macro opportunities with sea slugs, shrimp, and pipefish.
        • Sunset Viewing: The islet offers a photogenic view at golden hour, best enjoyed from a boat.

        Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Dakit-Dakit Island is during the dry season (December to May), when sea conditions are calm and visibility reaches up to 20–30 meters.

Avoid the monsoon season (June to October), as strong currents and storms can reduce accessibility and visibility.

        Facilities and Nearby Amenities

Dakit-Dakit is uninhabited and has no facilities. However, nearby Malapascua Island offers everything you need:

        • Dive shops and gear rentals
        • Beachfront resorts and budget hostels
        • Restaurants, cafes, and sari-sari stores
        • Medical clinics and tour services

        Visitor Tips and Guidelines

        • Book with certified dive operators in Malapascua for safety and current awareness.
        • Use reef-safe sunscreen to protect marine life.
        • Beware of sharp rocks — wear aqua shoes if approaching the islet.
        • Do not touch or collect marine life — many species are fragile or venomous.
        • Dive or snorkel with a buddy and follow local safety regulations.
        • Bring a dry bag for valuables when traveling by small boat.

Though small in size, Dakit-Dakit Island delivers a mighty marine experience. With its thriving reef ecosystem, proximity to Malapascua, and accessibility for beginners, it’s an excellent choice for divers, snorkelers, and nature lovers alike. Whether underwater or simply admiring the view from your boat, Dakit-Dakit offers a stunning and compact slice of Cebu’s underwater beauty.
